Cookie Policy
Last updated: 24 September 2026
The Skateparks Project takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains when and why cookies are used on this website and how you can control them.
On your first visit, provided you have not previously made a cookie choice, we do not intentionally place cookies or load Google Analytics or Google AdSense until you choose whether to accept optional cookies.
The box above shows your current cookie preference.
If you accept optional cookies, we load Google Tag Manager, which loads Google Analytics 4, and Google AdSense. If you decline them, those services remain blocked.
You can return to this page and change your choice at any time. The page will reload automatically so that your new preference takes effect. Changing your preference does not automatically delete cookies already stored on your device; you can remove those through your browser settings.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They can be used to remember your choices, distinguish one visitor from another, measure how a website is used and support advertising.
Cookies may be:
- First-party cookies, set by the website you are visiting; or
- Third-party cookies, set by an external service such as Google.
Some cookies are removed when you close your browser. Others remain until they expire or you delete them.
Strictly necessary cookies
When you accept or decline optional cookies, we place two strictly necessary first-party cookies on your device. These remember your decision and ensure that the website applies it correctly.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
tsp_consent | The Skateparks Project | Records whether you accepted or declined optional analytics and advertising cookies. | 6 months |
wpSGCacheBypass | The Skateparks Project / SiteGround | Prevents the website’s shared cache from serving a page generated using another visitor’s cookie preference. This ensures that your own choice is applied correctly. | 6 months |
These cookies do not perform analytics, personalise advertising or track your activity across other websites.
They are necessary to preserve and enforce your preference, so they are not controlled by the optional-cookie setting. If you delete them, the website will no longer remember your decision and will ask you to choose again.
Optional cookies
Optional cookies are used only after you give your consent.
If you accept them, we load Google Tag Manager, which loads Google Analytics 4, and Google AdSense. Google Tag Manager does not itself perform analytics or deliver advertisements, but the services loaded may place or read cookies.
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 (“GA4”) to understand how visitors use the website. This helps us assess and improve its content, design and performance.
Information collected may include:
- Pages viewed;
- Approximate location;
- Browser and device type;
- Referring website;
- Time spent on the website; and
- How visitors navigate between pages.
GA4 cookies may include:
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another. | Up to 2 years |
_ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics | Maintains information about a visitor’s session. The suffix varies according to the website’s GA4 property. | Up to 2 years |
Browser restrictions or your browser settings may shorten these durations.
More information is available in Google’s GA4 cookie documentation and data-collection documentation.
Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements that help fund The Skateparks Project.
After you accept optional cookies, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Deliver and display advertisements;
- Personalise advertisements, where enabled and permitted;
- Limit how often an advertisement is shown;
- Measure advertisement performance;
- Detect fraud and invalid traffic; and
- Remember advertising preferences.
AdSense cookies may be associated with domains including:
skateparks.co.uk;doubleclick.net;google.com;googlesyndication.com; andgoogleadservices.com.
Depending on your location, browser, Google settings, account status and the advertisements served, cookies may include:
| Cookie | Provider or domain | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
__gads | Google AdSense / skateparks.co.uk | Supports the display and measurement of Google advertisements. | Up to 13 months |
__gpi | Google AdSense / skateparks.co.uk | Supports the display, measurement and security of Google advertisements. | Up to 13 months |
__eoi | Google AdSense / skateparks.co.uk | Used by Google for ad-related security purposes. | 6 months |
IDE or id | Google / doubleclick.net | Delivers advertisements on non-Google websites, measures their effectiveness and, where permitted, supports personalisation or remembers a non-personalisation preference. | Up to 13 months in the UK, EEA and Switzerland; up to 24 months elsewhere |
NID | May be used to display advertisements to signed-out users and remember preferences. | Up to 6 months after the last use | |
DSID | Google / DoubleClick | Helps respect the advertising-personalisation settings of a visitor signed in to a Google account. | Up to 2 weeks |
This list is representative rather than exhaustive. The precise cookies used by Google AdSense can vary according to the advertisement served and Google may change them from time to time.
See Google’s advertising-cookie information and its explanation of how AdSense uses cookies for current details.
Google Maps
The website uses Google Maps. We have tested our Google Maps implementation and confirmed that the script used on this website does not place or read cookies.
Google Maps is therefore not controlled by the optional-cookie setting. We will review this if our implementation or Google’s service changes.
Although this implementation does not use cookies, loading a map may still involve a connection to Google’s servers. Further information about how personal data is handled is provided in our Privacy Policy.
Withdrawing your consent
You can accept, decline or change your choice at any time using the Your Cookie Preferences box at the top of this page.
Withdrawing consent prevents Google Analytics and Google AdSense from loading on subsequent pages. It does not automatically remove optional cookies that have already been stored on your device.
You can delete existing cookies through your browser settings. Browser controls differ, so consult your browser’s help documentation for instructions.
Declining or deleting optional cookies will not prevent you from accessing the website, although advertisements and some related features may work differently. If you delete the necessary preference cookies, we will ask you to make a new choice on your next visit.
You can also manage how Google personalises advertising through Google My Ad Center.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if the website, the services it uses or applicable requirements change. The date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last revised.
