For the purposes of UK data protection law, Alex Jordan, operating as The Skateparks Project, is the controller of the personal information described in this policy.
You can contact us about this policy or your personal information using our contact form.
2. Information we collect
We may collect personal information when you contact us, submit information about a skatepark or otherwise interact with the website.
This may include:
– your name and email address;
– your IP address;
– the contents of messages and information entered into free-text fields;
– skatepark information, image links and image copyright or credit details that you provide;
– search information, such as postcodes or what3words addresses;
– technical information contained in website security and server logs;
– cookie preferences; and

Please do not send sensitive personal information through our forms unless it is necessary for us to deal with your enquiry.

5. Contacting us
When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, IP address and the information included in your message.
Form submissions are sent to an email account hosted using Microsoft 365. They are used to consider and respond to your enquiry.
Alex normally handles enquiries personally. A message may be forwarded to an appropriate volunteer or other person only where this is necessary to deal with the enquiry and the disclosure would reasonably be expected. We will seek your permission before forwarding personal information where appropriate.
6. Skatepark and image submissions
When you submit a new skatepark or propose an update to an existing listing, we collect your name, email address, IP address and the information you enter into the submission form.
We may retain submission correspondence so that we can verify the source and accuracy of a listing, contact you about the submission and keep a record of permission to use submitted material.
We do not publish a submitter’s name or contact details merely because they submitted a listing. If an image is published, an agreed photographer or copyright credit may appear publicly alongside it.
You must have the necessary rights or permission to provide any images or other material submitted to us.
We do not accept photographs containing identifiable people. If we receive such a photograph, it will not be published and will be deleted.
7. Search and mapping services
The website uses Google Maps and what3words to provide location and skatepark-search functionality.
When you use these features, information such as your IP address, device information and search terms—including postcodes or what3words addresses—may be transmitted to the relevant provider. A postcode or precise location could relate to an individual, so you should avoid entering a home address or other location that you do not wish to disclose.
These providers process information under their own privacy policies. The Skateparks Project does not control how they use information collected directly through their services.
8. Cookies, analytics and advertising
The website uses a consent system that allows you to choose whether optional cookies and similar technologies may be used.
With your consent, we use Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager to understand how visitors use the website. The information collected may include pages visited, approximate location, device and browser information, interactions with the website and IP-derived information.
With your consent, Google AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to provide and measure advertising.
Essential technologies may be used without consent where they are necessary to provide a feature you have requested, remember your privacy choices, maintain security or operate the website.

9. Service providers and disclosures
We use service providers to operate and secure the website and to store or transmit information. These include:
– SiteGround, for website hosting, security, backups and email routing;
– Microsoft 365, for receiving and storing email;
– Dropbox, for backup storage;
– DNS Made Easy, for domain name system services;
– Google, for Maps, Tag Manager, Analytics and AdSense; and
– what3words, for location-search functionality.
These services may process limited personal information on our behalf or receive information when you use their features.
We may also disclose information where required by law, where necessary to protect legal rights or website security, or with your permission.
We do not share contact or submission information with Skateboard GB merely because The Skateparks Project works with that organisation.
10. International transfers
Some of our service providers operate internationally and may process personal information outside the United Kingdom.
Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we expect the relevant provider to use an approved transfer mechanism, such as UK-approved contractual protections, or another legally recognised safeguard. 11. How long we retain information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
As a general approach:
– routine enquiries and related correspondence will normally be deleted within two years after the enquiry has been resolved;
– unresolved enquiries may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with them;
– submission records may be retained while the relevant information or image remains published, and for a reasonable period afterwards, so that we can document its source, accuracy and permission to use it;
– security and server logs are retained according to the operational and security schedules applied by our hosting provider; and
– information contained in backups may remain until the relevant backup is replaced or deleted as part of the applicable backup cycle.
Some records may be retained for longer where they form part of the project’s historical archive, are needed to establish or defend legal rights, or must be kept to meet a legal obligation. We will consider whether personal details can be removed from archival material where they are no longer needed.
12. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access or disclosure.
These measures include controlled access to project email, website security controls, restricted access to backups and limiting access to submitted information. However, no method of transmitting or storing information online can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
13. Children’s privacy
The website may be used by children and young people. We limit the personal information requested through our forms and do not provide user accounts, public comments or personalised profiles.
If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us or help you submit information. Please do not include your home address, precise personal location or other unnecessary personal details in a message or submission.
A parent or guardian who believes that a child has provided us with personal information may contact us to request its deletion.
