Tredegar Park Skatepark (Newport)

Tredegar skatepark was designed and built by Acrete, opening in 2012. It is a huge skatepark that can be found on the west side of Newport and is made up of four sections: street, rhythm and 2 bowls.

The first of the bowls here is an old school pool, in a kidney bean shape and has concrete pool coping around the edge and stairs leading in on one side, just like the real thing on the west coast.

Next to this is the street section that starts on one side with a flat bank that opens up onto an earthquake gap on one side and a hipped bank on the other. Following these is a manny pad and flat bank with a gap inset and finally a flat bank for a return ramp.

Adjacent to the street course is the other, larger, bowl section. This bowl is much more open and has a lot of hips and corners to pump around as well as a doorway inset on one side that leads into the street section. In one corner is an oververt and along the long side is a large vert wall.

The rhythm section starts from the corner of this bowl and is made up of a pump bump and a jump box that is bookended with two quarter pipes.

Newport skatepark is a fantastic facility with literally something for everyone of all abilities. The park itself is huge and holds some large obstacles and transitions that are well arranged and spaced. The surfaces are also super smooth making it a great place for both beginners and experienced skaters alike.
