Bradford Skatepark Revamp

A group of eight teenagers are helping the effort to revamp two of Bradfords skateparks.

Both Upper Wyke and Victoria Park in Oakenshaw are set to be given total revamps to improve their facilities. The teenagers, with the support of Bradford Council’s youth services and the Friends of Wyke Park, teamed up with local residents and ward councillors to identify what improvements could be made to both of the parks and then submitted the application for funding.

The group successfully managed to secure a £4k grant from the local council’s youth opportunities fund.

Makenzie Turner, who was part of the group that made this happen, told the Telegraph and Argus that he took part in the scheme because “We wanted to add something positive to our community that makes a difference to young people’s lives.”

The improvements the group chose were new or enhanced ramps, a grind rail and some resurfacing work. Not bad for a small amount of funding.

There’s been no word on when these upgrades are due to take place, but we will keep you posted.
