A campaign is underway to transform an old disused nightclub into an indoor skatepark in Chesterfield.

Kerry Cunningham-Ravey proposed transforming the old Zanzibar nightclub, in Cavandish Street, into a brand new venue for the towns local young people to skate, and is now looking for the support from generous firms and fundraising to help her achieve her goal.

Kerry told the Derbyshire times that she first came up with the idea while taking her two young children to the local outdoor skatepark, which she felt wasn’t suitable for younger skaters. She explained that she wanted to provide a safe, positive and fun environment for young people to play and grow as individuals.

Chesterfield currently has an outdoor skatepark near Spirewalk business park, however local press report that the site has been troubled with two recent fires on the premises. Kelly argued that the local young people in Chesterfield deserve better facilities.

Businesses in the area which can help should contact Kerry by emailing [email protected].

Kerry gave special thanks to Lambs Cupcakes of Chesterfield, the first business to invest in the scheme.
