Charge Unit skatepark is Norwich’s only indoor skatepark and was opened in 2013 with the sponsorship of Charge clothing. It is made up of bespoke wooden ramps to form a rhythm section and also a street section.
One side of the warehouse space is made up of the series of jump boxes, creating lines that can allow you to easily gain speed and air. One of the lines holds whats know as the ‘rhino jump’ so called because of its shape and is a local favourite. At the end of these lines is also a huge vert wall with a quarter leading up to it.
The other side of the warehouse is taken up by the street section. Charge Unit’s street section has the usual set of obstacles in a line to create a long flowing course. Starting with a flat bank for speed it leads up to a series of moveable ledges and kickers with a shallow flat bank and long ledge on the right lining the wall. Adjacent to this is a hip with ledge that is adjoined to the first rhino jump box. These follows on to another flat bank which leads up to a plateau with a long hubba down the middle that back of which then follows onto the top platform of a half pipe.
Charge Unit skatepark is mainly BMX oriented with it’s jump box runs and fairly basic jump and grind focused street course, however the surfaces here are smooth and the jumps are high. Definitely worth checking out if you live in Norwich or are just visiting.
