Hairy Bob’s Skatepark (Scarborough)

Hairy Bob’s skatepark was designed and built by Maverick Industries, opening in 2009. So-called because of the nearby cave, it is an all concrete park that features both transition and street elements that can be found on the coastline.

The skatepark is separated into two sections, a bowl area and a street area. The bowl area is very big and split into two main sections with two long narrow channels one with an oververt at the end and the other with an extension. There is a volcano spine between the two and pump bump at the end of it, next to this is the end of the channels which is propped up by two speed bowls and a hip on one side. On the top platform of the bowls is also a ledge and running off the back of it is a long quarter pipe that is partially spined and opens up into the street section.

The street section starts with this long quarter pipe and it turns into a bowled corner at the end. This tracks around and turns into a flat bank, with euro gap and extension, that then curves back to form the return ramps for the back and forth street run that ends with a roll in. In between these ramps is a driveway with hubba, jump box and an unusually shaped hipped bank. Around the top platform of the outer ramps is another street course that starts with a stair set and flat bank which opens up onto a double curved ledge set finishing where the roll in starts.

Hairy Bobs skatepark is a fantastic spot, it has something for everyone of all abilities and styles. The surfaces are smooth and true and the arrangement has been well designed to make use of the space well. You should definitely check it out if you are in the area.
